Editing & Proofreading

Congrats on crafting your first draft! Your next step is to consult with us for editing and proofreading support. We will help you revise your project, so you can confidently share it with your audience. Our goal is to always honor your authentic voice. Based on your needs, we will provide any of the following services:

Content Editing:

“Content editing (also called developmental editing or substantive editing), as the name implies, involves checking the content.  It checks the content for factual errors, contradictions, and inconsistencies. If the content is fictional, it checks for discrepancies in the plot, character, or dialogue. It checks whether the theme has been developed (hence developmental editing) properly, or whether the sub-plots have been well integrated into the story line. In other words, content editing evaluates the content in detail.” – Word-Mart (source)

Copy Editing:

“The tasks involved in copy editing include checking written material for grammar, spelling, style, and punctuation issues before it’s prepared for proofreading. A copy editor may also do a rewrite, if necessary, to fix any problems with transitions, wordiness, jargon, and to ensure the style of the piece fits with the publication. This work is known as revision.” Grammarly (source)

Proofreading:

“When the material is nearly a finished product, meaning it has been edited, laid out, and designed, the proofreader searches for typographical errors. The proofreader works with a facsimile of a finished product, or a proof (hence the term proofreading). Proofreaders don’t suggest major changes to the text; rather, they look for minor text and formatting errors and confirm the material is ready for publication.” Grammarly (source)

How does pricing work?

During your initial consultation, we will assess your support needs before providing a quote. Pricing is based on several factors, including:

  • Type of service(s) selected
  • Requested turnaround time for service completion
  • Length of project
  • Type/genre of project (e.g., an MPA formatted essay poses different editing needs than a personal blog post)
